Ever since 60 Minutes ran their now famous piece on resveratrol, showing that studies revealed that this could be a scientific breakthrough that enables human beings to look and feel younger, many have sought an easy and cost-effective way to buy resveratrol supplements.

There’s also some evidence that resveratrol could be an effective supplement for people who are trying to lose weight, or who want to increase their physical stamina, or both.

But that’s not all…

Researchers have also found that resveratrol many also help you lower your cholesterol and it may even help protect you against certain types of cancer. Well, that’s certainly a heck of a lot of benefits. This is pretty powerful stuff, even if, let’s say, only half of those claims are true.

But then the question is — if you want to buy resveratrol, what do you look for in resveratrol supplements?

Here are a few pointers:

It’s important to look for companies that are known for putting out effective supplements. By high quality, one must find a product that has enough of the Resveratrol in it to make a difference in your body. Sounds obvious, but it’s worth repeating.

Another thing to keep in mind is that resveratrol, because it’s a “supplement” and not a “drug,” doesn’t fall under control of agenices like the FDA. This simply means that, in general, the manufacturers of resveratrol don’t have to pass the same quality control tests as drug companies.

So in reality, you could be buying any old thing that claims to be resveratrol but isn’t. I’m sure you’ve probably seen that the media has been reporting that in at least a few cases, bottles of resveratrol have been mislabeled. So of course it’s important to ensure that the supplement you’re getting really is resveratrol. Another point that should be pretty obvious, I know.

If you only go with the company that is willing to let you try a free sample before you buy their product, you pretty much take away all the risk. This is a great test — no one, you would think, would be willing to let you try their product for free unless they were pretty confident in the results you were going to get.

Beyond that, use some common sense. Quality resveratrol is a very hot commodity at the moment. If you’re tempted to go with something that costs $5, consider that it may not even be resveratrol that you’re buying.

So, go with free trials to test the product first. I wouldn’t start thinking that you’ve gotten an amazing deal because you were able to find some bargain-basement resveratrol.
