Resveratrol Supplements and Your Health - What’s the Connection?

Resveratrol Supplements

One of the great mysteries of dietetic science is the so called “French Paradox” – the French eat foods that are high in calories, high in fat, and wash it down with gallons of red wine, and have a typical healthy life span that’s nearly four years longer than an American who eats similarly.

This isn’t coincidental. Resveratrol is the compound that seems to be the solution to the mystery. Produced by some plants to guard against infection, resveratrol is one of the most powerful antioxidants you can find.

The only thing that was confusing in terms of the French Paradox is that it didn’t appear the French were getting enough resveratrol from their diet alone.

Almost no one will deny that when resveratrol has been tested in the lab, it produced benefits in nearly every instance. The lucky mice who were given resveratrol lived longer, but that’s just one part of it. They also had more energy and more lean muscle than their counterparts.

Hold on, that’s only half the story…

Mice that had been genetically engineered to suffer diabetes were fed resveratrol and their blood glucose levels dropped to only slightly above normal.

This wasn’t quite a ‘cure for diabetes’ so to speak, but its effects were pronounced enough that escalated and accelerated human trials were approved.

And as you might expect, now the Web is getting into this as well. I’m pretty confident you’re well aware of the reports that have been over-the-top in their glowing enthusiasm for this new wonder drug.

Does it warrant all this attention?

It just may. But it would be pretty difficult for any supplement to live up to the extreme hype surrounding resveratrol. A fairytale fountain of youth doesn’t really exist out here in the real world.

But perhaps, just perhaps, resveratrol comes as close as we can hope to get.

It’ll only take a minute or two, so I definitely think it’s worth checking out. You should be aware that resveratrol isn’t subject to drug purity laws because it’s not technically a drug, but is instead classified as a “nutrional supplement.”

Buying resveratrol, like buying any supplement online, is a game of buyer beware. There’s no way to “produce” resveratrol yet, so it takes a lot of time and effort to actually harvest it from plants. Which means that resveratrol supplements tend to vary in quality, along with their price.

Before you ask, trying to get nutritionally and clinically significant amounts of resveratrol from your food sources is almost impossible – the most concentrated form of resveratrol found in a typical diet is in dark red wine, and you’d have to drink about 3 liters a day of the stuff to get the comparable dose fed to lab mice.

So to get the benefit, you’re going to need a little help in the form of supplements. But what do you need to do to choose the best resveratrol supplements?

Look for resveratrol supplements that are relatively, if not wholly, free of fillers. Store your resveratrol supplements in proper conditions, because they can break down if kept in intense heat or very bright light.

The very first thing I would suggest you do is head over to this resveratrol supplements review page, where you’ll find constantly updated reviews. I really like the videos that show how to get the free samples of resveratrol that a lot of companies are giving away. So it’s definitely worth a couple minutes to check out, and could save you significant amounts of money over the old “trial and error” method.

Just to sum up, whichever resveratrol supplements you choose to take, understand that it’s only a part of a health maintenance system. You still have to eat right, exercise your body and pay attention to your emotional health, with or without resveratrol as part of your diet.

Remember, one single pill can’t cure everything, and it can’t completely undo the damage you do to your body from living an unhealthy lifestyle. But if we can trust the tests, it has the ability to dramatically reduce the time required for healthier changes in your lifestyle to take effect.
